Council committees play a vital role in strengthening transparency, financial accountability, and strategic decision-making at the Groote Archipelago Regional Council. These committees operate under formal terms of reference and meet regularly to support the work of the Council and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Finance Committee

Purpose

The Finance Committee assists the Council in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities in the months when an Ordinary Council Meeting is not scheduled. It plays a key role in reviewing budgets, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring fiscal responsibility across all council operations.

Audit Committee

Purpose

The Audit Committee provides independent assurance and advice to the Council and the CEO on matters of risk, internal control, compliance, and governance. It is established in line with Sections 86 and 87 of the Local Government Act 2019 (NT).

The Committee helps to ensure that Council systems and practices meet legislative requirements and operate with integrity and accountability.
